Does not run after installation...

I installed without incident, but when I try to launch the software I get this:

Hi,

Thank you for trying youwave and especially for the feedback.  However, I need  more information regarding the exception/crash.

Can you provide me with the following:

1. You windows version
2. Your machine cpu, and amount of DRAM
3. Can you also email the file <your home dir>/youwave/youwave.log
4. and the file <your home dir>/youwave/android apps/apps.xml

This will give us some clue as to what the problem may be.

I realize not being able to run youwave is frustrating.  I will try my best to get to the root of the problem and fix it.

CPU:  AMD Athlon 64 X2, 1.9 GHz, 1 GB of RAM.

I can not find the LOG file or the XML file you specify.

Hi,

Thank you for your information.  Based on your input, can I request you to do the following :

1) Uninstall youwave
2) Go to <Program Files> to determine that the directory YouWave_Android is no longer there
3) Go to your home directory and remove the directory called "youwave"
4) Reinstall youwave and try it out.

The reason is that we think that the crash may be due to long names for some apk files.  We are hoping that with the above procedure you are starting with a clean slate and should not see any problem.  Youwave has been tested extensively on xp-based PCs with only 1GB of Ram.  We apologize for the problem we caused you and we really appreciate your continued feedback.

I'm having the same problem.  My download says, "Youwave_Android-1-3-1.exe".  I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, 8GB ram, 48GB free space.  It installed fine but when I run it all I get is a flash of the screen trying to display then it goes away.  I tried the above suggestion to uninstall & re-install, but no luck.

Any ideas?

For people having this crash issue, if you click the "click here" in the Windows exception message, you should see a few files. They are coredump files. Can you email the files as attachments to support@youwave.com? Please mention the following information as well -

1. You windows version
2. Your machine cpu, and amount of DRAM
3. Can you also email the file <your home dir>/youwave/youwave.log
4. and the file <your home dir>/youwave/android apps/apps.xml

There's nothing to click on.  It's a real fast window flash then it's gone.  Nothing in the event viewer.

1. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
2. Dell Intel Core2 Duo P8800 @ 2.66GHz 2.67 GHz, 8GB RAM
3. I don't have that file, only the folder and the sub-folder "android apps"
4. I only have localapps.xml, not apps.xml, but happy to email it to you if you want.

Hi,

Can you please query your environmental variables by issuing the following commands in a command prompt (dos) window:

echo %HOMEDRIVE%
---- should return "C:"

echo %HOMEPATH%
---- should return "/Users/<user>"

Youwave uses these 2 windows environmental variables to create a log file under your home directory, for e.g.,

c:/Users/<user>/youwave/youwave.log

Please make sure you can see the directory youwave and that it is writable.
If for some reason, the 2 windows environmental variables are NULL or pointing to a different drive or directory, for e.g., you HOMEDRIVE is C: but your home directory is on D: drive, youwave could be confused and tried to create

c:/Users/<user>/youwave/youwave.log

when it should be creating

d:/Users/<user>/youwave/youwave.log

If this is indeed the case, try creating a temporary directory c:/Users/<user>/ and copy 2 directories (with their content)
.virtualbox
youwave

from
d:/Users/<user>/ to c:/Users/<user>/

You can then try running youwave again.

Please let us know if the above fixes your problem.

AH, that was the problem!  %HOMEDRIVE% is N: and %HOMEPATH% is \.  I tried changing those but it didn't help.  So I created a .cmd file with this in it:

set homedrive=C:
set homepath=/Users/uchytil
"C:\Program Files (x86)\YouWave_Android\YouWave_Android.exe"

That works and now I've got YouWave running!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!  :)

I am experiencing the same symptoms as Richtpt (quick flash on screen, but nothing stays open).  My HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH appear correct.  The YouWave.log and Apps.xml files are not present. 

1. Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
2. Intel Atom 330 1.6 GHz x2 (Dual Core), 3.25 GB RAM, nVidia ION 1.6GB Max Shared Video RAM
3. Does not exist
4. Does not exist

I have emailed a screenshot to support@youwave.com

Hi BubbleHead,

    Did you install YouWave Android using a different user name? Our installer should create a "youwave" directory under your HOMEPATH. But from your capture, we did not see this directory.

    Can you reinstall YouWave using your own user name and check if you see the "youwave" directory under your home directory?

I see what happened now.  I work primarily on a standard user account, with a separate administrator account reserved only for situations which require those permissions.  I do this to provide an additional layer of protection against malicious software.  When I attempted to install YouWave Android, I was logged into my standard user account, but selected "run as administrator" to install the program (since admin rights are required for program installs).  Unfortunately, since the required permissions to install came from the Admin user account (even though I was logged on as a standard user), the YouWave directory you referred to in your email response was created under the Administrator user account, vice my primary user account.  In order to install this program to run properly on a standard user account, I ended up having to elevate the permissions of my standard account to administrator, install the program, then demote the permissions of the account back to a standard user.

Most software applications give you the option to enable the software for all users on a computer which the software is installed.  This does not seem to be the case for YouWave Android, since it appears that the software will only run on the profile on which it is installed.

Your analysis was right. And we agree with your assessment. YouWave for Android software has two components - the system program part and user setting part. Our current installer installs both during installation time, making the program only run under the profile with which it is installed. It is possible to improve our software to install the user setting part during the first run for a particular user. So we can enable all the users on the PC.
